SwimSafer 2.0 in Singapore
SwimSafer 2.0 is Singapore’s national water-safety programme. It develops swimming proficiency and water-survival skills through six progressive stages.
Sport Singapore and Singapore Aquatics are the official sources for programme, instructor, registration, assessment and certification information. SwimmingNearMe.sg is not an official SwimSafer website.
The Six SwimSafer Stages
- Stage 1: introduction to water skills, confidence and personal water safety
- Stage 2: fundamental water skills and continued swimming development
- Stage 3: personal and stroke-development skills
- Stage 4 — Bronze: personal survival and stroke improvement
- Stage 5 — Silver: intermediate personal-survival and swimming skills
- Stage 6 — Gold: advanced personal-survival and swimming skills
The exact competencies and assessment requirements should be checked on the official SportSG SwimSafer page.
Preparation Is Not the Same as Assessment
Swimming lessons may help a learner prepare for relevant stage competencies, but preparation does not guarantee assessment readiness, a pass or an e-certificate.
Before enrolling, ask whether the proposed arrangement is general swimming instruction, SwimSafer preparation, or part of an official assessment pathway. Confirm the assigned instructor’s current SwimSafer accreditation when that is required.
Private Assessments and CAMS
SportSG states that private SwimSafer assessments are managed through the Centralised Assessment and Management System (CAMS). Assessment registration, venue, payment, practical requirements, theory quiz and results follow the current CAMS process.
Assessment venues and schedules can change. Parents and participants should check the venue shown in their booking confirmation and use official SportSG or Singapore Aquatics guidance before attending.
Certificates
An e-certificate is issued only after the participant successfully completes the requirements for the relevant stage. This includes the applicable practical assessment and theory process. Lesson attendance alone does not produce a certificate.
Choosing SwimSafer Preparation Lessons
Confirm the learner’s current stage or ability, the proposed instructor, lesson location, class size, preparation goals, assessment plan and expected fees. Ask how the instructor decides when a participant is ready to be registered for assessment.
Compare kids swimming lessons, current lesson fees, and nearby location guides such as Tampines, Bedok, Sengkang and Woodlands.
Learners can also use the SwimSafer water-safety practice quiz and review the SwimSafer assessment-preparation guide. These resources support learning and do not replace official instruction, assessment or current SportSG requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the recommended minimum age?
SportSG states that the recommended minimum entry age is six, although minimum ages can vary between service providers and instructors.
Can a learner skip stages?
SportSG indicates that a recognised instructor may assess a participant’s capability and advise accordingly. Do not select a stage without an appropriate readiness assessment.
Does a preparation course include the official assessment?
Not necessarily. Confirm lesson, registration, assessment, payment and theory-quiz arrangements separately.
Can any swimming coach register a participant?
Official requirements apply. SportSG says private assessment requests must be validated through the current process by a recognised SwimSafer instructor connected to the participant.
Where should I check current information?
Use SportSG’s official SwimSafer page and Singapore Aquatics’ current CAMS information. Venue and schedule notices may change.
